The African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) is pleased to announce the call for applications for the AI4D Africa Scholarship Programme for Persons with Disabilities funded by IDRC and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO).
The programm aims to support Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in sub-Saharan Africa. The African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) has received a grant from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to support the scholarship of Persons with Disability (PWD) within sub-Saharan Africa. The funding will support the training of PhD students in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) and the research work of Early Career Academics in AI & ML. The research work within this program must be in AI and attempt to address any of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The award of the scholarships shall strive to achieve uniform distribution of beneficiaries across Francophone, Anglophone, and Lusophone sub-Saharan Africa. Their strategy is to enhance the representation of equity-seeking groups. Based on the applications received, they will seek to ensure women fill at least 50% of the positions given their under-representation in the AI field.
