The chair group Horticulture and Product Physiology of Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is keen to hire an Assistant Professor. As an Assistant Professor, you will have the opport growth and functioning, and plant-nutrient relationships in soilless cultivation in greenhouses and vertical farms. Tasks

For the Position on Root Physiology in Hydroponic Systems, candidate will;

  • collaborate with colleagues and establish a personal research portfolio that is embedded in the Horticulture and Product Physiology group
  • to perform physiological research on root-shoot interactions, plant-nutrient relations, and root functioning and development in relation to the abiotic environment.
  • the research will be at the tissue, organ, whole-plant as well as crop level.
  • the research will be conducted with horticultural crops (vegetables, cut flowers, and/or pot plants) grown in soilless culture in greenhouses and vertical farms.
  • acquire, lead and implement together with the chairholder and other staff members innovative and creative (inter-)national research projects for the group.
  • supervise BSc, MSc, and PhD students. they will also develop and teach courses (lectures, practicals) on physiological processes of root-shoot interactions, plant-nutrient relationships, and soilless cultivation in greenhouses and vertical farms.
  • undertake research that leads to high-quality research output.
  • the research contributes to improving the quality, yield, and sustainability of horticultural crop production.

Duration: 7 years

Salary

  • a competitive salary of between € 3.821,- and € 5.230, per month
  • 8% holiday allowance;
  • a structural end of year bonus of 8.3%;

Job Requirements

For the Assistant Professor Position on Root Physiology in Hydroponic Systems, applicants must meet the following requirement:

  • hold a PhD degree in plant science, biological science, or a related field
  • have experience in physiological and/or molecular research on root-shoot interactions and/or plant-nutrient relations
  • have published research in high-quality journals and are willing to develop your skills in teaching and grant proposal acquisition
  • be a strong communicator
  • have a keen interest in phenotyping and/or simulation modeling, which is considered a plus
