Career Track Assistant Professorship in Economic and Business History

Applications are currently welcome for a Career Track Assistant Professor job in Economic and Business History at the University of Groningen’s Department of Economics, Econometrics, and Finance.

The University of Groningen (UG) seeks candidates with good teaching skills who are interested in further developing themselves to apply for this position. The candidates will conduct original research and aim to publish in high-ranking international journals. The scope of their research can be broad within the field of economic and business history. They should have a track record of high-quality academic research and the ability to establish an international reputation.

They will also contribute to courses in the BSc and MSc programs offered by the department, in particular economic history, business history, history of economic thought, and possibly finance. Moreover, they are involved in the supervision of bachelor and master theses.

Starting Date: August/September 2024.

Salary

In accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch universities, they offer:

  • a salary depending on qualifications and work experience, starting from a minimum of € 4,332 to a maximum of € 6,737
  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus
  • participation in a pension scheme for employees
  • favorable tax treatment may apply to non-Dutch applicants.

Job Requirements

To qualify, the candidate should have:

  • a PhD in Economic History or a relevant field of Economics, or being close to completion
  • research papers with the potential to be published in top-tier Economic or Business History journals (or published articles in these journals)
  • teaching experience preferably in Economic History or Business History courses
  • a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) or the willingness to obtain this qualification
  • experience with or a willingness to apply for external financing (e.g. at NWO)
  • a commitment to working as part of a team
  • strong communication skills
  • an ambition to develop an international network of professional contacts
