Data modelling Analyst at Wageningen University and Research

Wageningen University & Research seeks a Data modelling analyst who wants to help to solve impactful problems in the food safety domain.

In the tasks for this position, applicants will:

  • be part of the research group that investigates the impacts of the global and societal changes on food safety in the food supply chain.
  • contribute to the development and implementation of methods for risk-based food safety monitoring, decision support, and monitoring tools to predict and prioritize known and unknown hazards in the food supply chain.
  • use a variety of modelling approaches whereby using different datasets to develop quantitative prediction models.
  • work in different ongoing research projects involving kinetic, biological, and simulation modelling. 
  • also contribute to the writing of new project proposals and of scientific publications. And
  • help to answer scientific questions and provide insights to food safety authorities and other stakeholders we work with.


the Data modelling analyst position offers;

  • a competitive gross salary of between €2908 and €4624;

Job Requirements

For the data modelling analyst position, seek:

  • Expertise in quantitative analyses of complex data originating from different sources
  • An applicant with a relevant MSc or PhD in for example food science, computer science, data science, statistical modelling, industrial engineering or any other relevant background.
  • Expertise in simulation, biological and/or kinetic modelling  
  • Experience with Excel incl @RISK, Python, R
  • Affinity with food production and food safety, understanding of the food production chain is a plus.
  • Good communication skills in English (C1 level), both written and verbally, and the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and projects.
  • Solid scientific basis with the ability to identify relevant issues and formulate practical recommendations and solutions.
  • Good scientific writing skills, with a proven track record.
