Applications are currently open for the Global Health Equity Scholars (GHES) Fellowship in the US (2024–25)

In order to alleviate health inequities and enhance population health, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) sponsors the Global Health Equity Scholars (GHES) Fellowship, a 12-month mentored training programme in global health research.

The fellowship is intended for US postdoctoral fellows and international postdoctoral fellows from connected institutions in LMICs. It is also open to US doctorate students (PhD, DrPH, etc.), US professional students (MD, DDS, DVM, PharmD, etc.), and US postdoctoral fellows. The primary goal of the programme is to prepare future generations of health researchers and practitioners to tackle new issues related to global health and inequalities.

These may include health challenges from the world’s burgeoning human settlements, known as slums, that have developed in urban and rural communities in many LMICs.

Duration: 12-month fellowship in the US

Eligibility

  • Citizen of a low- or middle-income country as defined by the World Bank.
  • Complete the doctoral degree by June 1, 2022, or have received the doctoral degree within the past five years.
  • The applicant must be affiliated with one of the 28 GHES partner LMIC institutions and must secure the endorsement of GHES mentors in the application.
  • Doctoral degrees considered include MBBS, MMed, PhD among others.
  • US citizen or resident
  • Advanced candidacy doctoral students or professional students (MD, DDS, DVM, PharmD, etc.) who have completed 3 years of professional schooling

  • Letters of support (minimum of 2, maximum of 3)
  • Transcript
  • NIH biosketch for applicants
  • NIH biosketch for mentors
