Hertie School of Governance International Doctoral Scholarship, 2021

The Hertie School Invites applications for its PhD scholarships to outstanding master’s students willing to pursue a PhD in its Doctoral Programme in Governance as of 1 September 2021.

The Hertie School offers doctoral education in the social sciences in an international and multidisciplinary setting. To find answers to today’s social, political, legal and economic challenges Hertie doctoral researchers work with distinguished scholars in their discipline or at one of the Hertie centres of Competence (Centre for Digital Governance, Centre for Fundamental Rights, Centre for International Security, Centre for Sustainability, Jacques Delors Centre).

Rigorous academic training, close supervision and institutional support, and the opportunity to develop professional skills prepare their PhD researchers for leading academic and research careers beyond academia. The Hertie School is part of a vibrant research hub in the heart of Berlin and closely cooperates with leading doctoral programmes in Europe through the EU-funded CIVICA project.

Monthly Stipend of 1,250 euros.

Eligibility

Hertie appreciates applications from candidates with an exceptionally strong master’s degree (or equivalent) in economics, law, political science, sociology, public administration, management, or related fields. They especially encourage women and international candidates to apply.

Application Process

The application has to be submitted via the Hertie online application portal. The following documents and information will be required for application:

  • Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages)
  • Online application form, including abstract of the research proposal (maximum 400 words)
  • Research proposal (1,500-2,500 words excluding references)
  • Letter of Motivation (maximum 250-400 words)
  • Transcripts and certificates of all acquired university degrees
  • English proficiency proof (may be handed in after the deadline)
  • PDF Education History
  • Two academic letters of reference
