Job Position: Electrical Engineer with Interest in Plant Physiology

The Horticulture and Product Physiology group at Wageningen University is looking for an electrical engineer to apply his/her engineering skills to investigate plant physiology.

The chair group Horticulture and Product Physiology of Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is keen on hiring a research and education assistant. As an assistant, you will support the technical aspects and measurements of plant physiological research.

They are aiming to develop plant sensing solutions that will help achieve sustainable autonomous greenhouses and vertical farms in the future. In this research, you cooperate with other researchers, postdocs, PhD students, and MSc students. You will participate in the educational activities of the group, which include assisting in practicals and research projects for students.

Tasks

The tasks for the Electrical Engineering position with Interest in Plant Physiology include:

  • developing interfaces to combine sensing techniques and create unique solutions that enable progress in plant physiology.
  • developing new sensing techniques, comparing them to gold standard techniques, and applying them to measure plant physiological processes such as leaf gas exchange, sap flow, and plant growth.
  • assists and helps organize education and research projects.
  • developing and maintaining plant monitoring solutions to study plant behavior in greenhouses and vertical farms.

Salary

Job Requirements

To be considered for the Electrical Engineering position with an Interest in Plant Physiology, applicants should have the following

  • A bachelor’s degree from a university of applied sciences specializing in electrical or mechanical engineering or related study
  • A proven experience with at least one of the following topics:
    •    computer programming (e.g. Python, C++)
    •    biological signal processing and interpretation
    •    prototyping electronic circuits
    •    developing a new design to achieve a specific measurement
  • A result-driven team player with creative ideas,
  • Precise and organizational skills
  • Good communication and proficiency in English.
