Junior Lecturer in Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is looking for colleagues who are passionate about computer science education, in particular in the area of programming languages, to join their department as junior lecturers to strengthen their staff by providing high-quality education.

As a junior lecturer, candidates will be involved in various teaching-related and organizational activities in both programmes. They will be encouraged to work on academic innovations and build portfolios in the context of education as preparation for various career paths. To this end, they will have the opportunity to acquire a basic qualification in teaching at the university level (‘BKO’). The junior lecturer position is ideally suited for early-career teachers.

Tasks

The junior lecturer will be expected to:

  • support teachers in individual courses in the associated education programmes
  • supervise/coordinate bachelor and/or master thesis projects
  • coordinate student assistants
  • provide technical and organizational assistance for project-oriented courses and thesis projects
  • advise on and help with the further development of innovative teaching concepts
  • provide organizational assistance in education-related events

Duration: 4 Years 

Starting Date: The starting date is ASAP and will be defined together with the selected candidate.

Salary

They offer:

  • a salary of minimum €3.226,00 and maximum €5.090,00 gross per month, on a full-time basis, depending on experience.
  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus

Job Requirements

Applicants for this position of Junior Lecturer in Computer Science must meet the following criteria:

  • have completed a Master in Computer Science, Computational Science, or a related Master’s programme
  • have an academic background and competencies in parallel programming and high-performance computing
  • knowledge of scientific computing, numerical methods, and numerical linear algebra is a plus
  • be enthusiastic about teaching
  • have strong oral and written communication skills in English
  • possess good organizational skills
  • be proactive and able to work independently
