Postdoctoral Position in Carbon-rich Organic Materials

Van ‘t Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences (HIMS) Is looking for a candidate to fill an open postdoctoral position in their group in the photochemical synthesis of carbon-rich organic materials within our ERC-funded project TOPOCLIP

The Van ‘t Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences (HIMS) is one of eight institutes of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) Faculty of Science. HIMS performs internationally recognized chemistry and molecular research, curiosity driven as well as application driven. This is done in close cooperation with the chemical, flavor & food, medical and high-tech industries. 

Tasks 

  • Multistep organic synthesis, performing quantum chemical calculations, steady-state, eventually, time-resolved spectroscopy (UV-Vis, fluorescence);
  • Supervision of PhD students in the team working on the project; reporting the results; communicating the results via peer-review publications and at conferences.

Duration: 12 months

Starting Date: July 1, 2023.

Salary

  • The gross salary – depending on previous qualifications and experience ranges between € 2,960,- to € 4,670, per month
  • This is exclusive of an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus

Job Requirements

  • A recent PhD degree in organic chemistry with a strong focus on the synthesis of curved carbon-rich materials with solid experience with quantum-chemical calculations.
  • Knowledge of synthetic photochemical methods and experience with steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopy will be an advantage.
  • Excellent laboratory skills and a proven track record in multistep organic synthesis of carbon-rich molecules;
  • Good communication skills in oral and written English;
  • Takes initiative and has good time management skills;
  • Interest in collaborating with students and colleagues within the institute.
