The Nordic Africa Institute is currently inviting applications for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher in Development Economics.
NAI offers a stimulating intellectual environment, an interdisciplinary research orientation, a team of researchers from different social and natural scientific backgrounds, a professional communications unit, and a library with modern facilities. In addition, the institute is linked to an extensive network of research institutions in Africa and the Nordic countries.
They expect the candidate to have an excellent record of experience working on the economic analysis of issues and trends relevant to modern Africa, but to also have the capacity to connect to other research areas and disciplines. Specifically, the candidates are to work in areas related to economic growth, trade, public finance, inequality, and poverty.
Duration: This is a fixed-term, two-year position with a probationary period of 6 months.
Location: The duty station is in Uppsala, Sweden.
Starting Date: August, 2024.
Salary
Salary is negotiable within the institute’s current salary levels and remuneration packages. The position includes attractive benefits and conditions offered to employees of the Swedish civil service.
Job Requirements
Applicants for this position must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum of a PhD degree in Economics, Development Economics, Development Studies, Political Economy, Global Studies, or International Development.
- The doctoral degree must have been obtained within the last three years, or up to five years if special circumstances apply, prior to the application deadline
- Strong methodological skills for undertaking empirical research and quantitative analysis, including demonstrated programming experience in STATA
- The candidate must have demonstrated academic experience in the economic analysis of Africa’s development, including research-based policy engagement.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
- Strong writing ability and capacity to present complex issues in a readable form for both academic and non-academic audiences.
- Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English.
