A PhD applicant, passionate about entrepreneurship, science & technological innovation, and governance is sought after by the Science & Tech Entrepreneurship Group at the Department of Physics & Astronomy, University of Groningen for the position of assistant professor in Mathematics.
In order to promote academic entrepreneurship in science and technology, governance structures are essential. Research on organizational principles will be developed as part of this project in order to best align multi-level governance with fostering academic scientific and tech entrepreneurial ambition. and therefore, help to broaden the influence of science.
The ideal candidate is eager to conduct action-oriented research on science and tech entrepreneurship, using the academic context and our broad and international network of research and industry contacts as playgrounds to develop a state-of-the-art research project. The candidate will develop and defend an original, impactful research project for a duration of four years in order to obtain a PhD-degree from the Faculty of Science at VU Amsterdam.
Tasks
The successful candidate will complete and defend a PhD thesis (in English) within the official appointment duration of four years. During this project candidate will:
- gain knowledge of the field through literature research, discussion with team members, and internal research meetings
- plan, organize, and conduct data-collection, analyse and interpret results
- collaborate hands-on with participants and other researchers
- publish scientific articles;
- present results at local, national and international scientific meetings and conferences
- contribute to teaching activities within the Science, Business & Innovation programs (max 10%).
Duration: 01 years with the possibility to extend to a total maximum of 4 years.
Salary
The position offer:
- The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel and amounts €2,541 (PhD) per month during the first year and increases to €3,247 (PhD) per month during the fourth year, based on a full-time employment.

Job Requirements
- A master’s degree in technological innovation management, science & technology studies, public administration or policy sciences combined with a strong & demonstrated interest in (fundamental) science and governance of science.
- Excellent analytical skills
- A creative, flexible, pragmatic & pioneering attitude
- Excellent writing skills, proven by an exemplary piece of text.
- Excellent proficiency in the English language
