Applications for the 2024 Gates Cambridge Scholarship for Study in the UK are currently open to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK.
Gates Cambridge awards around 80 full-fee scholarships a year to deserving non-UK students who wish to pursue a postgraduate degree in any field offered by the University of Cambridge. There will be about 25 awards available in the US round and 55 awards available in the international round, with about two-thirds of these awards going to PhD candidates.

By choosing exceptional scholars, offering them financial and non-financial assistance at one of the top universities in the world, and facilitating community building at Cambridge and beyond, it hopes to accomplish this purpose.
Benefits
The Gates Cambridge scholarship provides:
- the University Composition Fee at the appropriate rate*
- A maintenance allowance for a single student
- Academic development funding – from up to £500 to up to £2,000, dependent on the length of the course
- Dependent Children’s Allowance
- Maternity/Paternity funding
- One economy single airfare at both the beginning and end of the course
- Inbound visa costs & the cost of the Immigration Health Surcharge
- Hardship funding – for unforeseen difficulties facing the scholar
Eligibility
To apply for Gates Cambridge scholarship, applicants must:
- a citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom
- applying to pursue one of the following courses at the University of Cambridge:
- PhD (full-time or part-time*)
- MLitt (full-time)
- One-year postgraduate course (full-time), with some exceptions
