The Shanghai Government Scholarship for International Students

The Shanghai Government in China invites applications for its Scholarship Program for International Students to study in Shanghai, China.

Shanghai Municipal People’s Government established the “Shanghai Government Scholarship for International Students” (hereinafter referred to SGS) in 2006 with the goal of creating a global science and technology innovation center, promoting international cooperation and communication, and attracting more outstanding prospective international students to study in China. It was developed to support exceptional overseas students who wish to study in Shanghai’s higher education institutions.

Benefits

Shanghai Government Scholarship is classified into A and B types.

Type A (Full scholarship): The scholarship covers

  • Tuition fees,
  • Expenses for accommodation and living, and
  • Medical insurance during the corresponding study period.

Type B (Partial scholarship): covers

  • Tuition and
  • Medical insurance during the corresponding study period. 

Eligibility

To be considered for the Shanghai Government Scholarship for International Students;

  • Applicant must be a non-Chinese citizen in good health.
  • Age and education background:
  • Applicant applying for for master’s programs should have a bachelor degree or above and be no more than 35 years old;
  • for PhD programs, applicant should have a master’s degree or above with academic research ability, and be no more than 40 years old.
  • Outstanding in academic performance.
  • Language proficiency
  • Meeting entry requirements of the applied university and program.
