Zeitz MOCAA & University of the Western Cape Museum Fellowship Programme

The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) and the University of the Western Cape (UWC) are happy to announce an open call for the second round of a year-long museum fellowship programme designed to train a new generation of African art and museum professionals.

The Zeitz MOCAA & University of the Western Cape (UWC) Museum Fellowship Programme aims to support the development of curatorial practise while also advancing the study of contemporary art discourse from the continent.

The Fellowship Programme is ideal for individuals who are interested in further developing their careers in art museums, galleries, art centres, private and public collection management, biennials, art publishing, art festivals and related fields. The programme is based in Cape Town, South Africa, where the university and museum are located, and that is fast becoming a major creative centre. The programme will also offer fellows a rich exploration of the fundamental networks and systems that contribute to the city’s art and heritage ecosystem.

Duration: 12 months

Eligibility

Eligible applicants for the Zeitz MOCAA & University of the Western Cape Museum Fellowship Programme will preferably

  • have a bachelor’s degree in art history, curatorial studies, political science, history, heritage or museum studies or other relevant humanities fields;
  • Show a demonstrated capacity to work at a postgraduate level;
  • Knowledge of contemporary art and heritage from Africa and the African diaspora;
  • Excellent writing skills;
  • 2-3 years of relevant work experience;
  • Citizenship of an African country; and
  • Proficiency in English.
